After competing at her first Commonwealth Games in April, the Bay and Basin Amateur Swim Club member used that experience to take her performances to the next level in the Tobruk Memorial Pool, Cairns, where she competed against 19 other countries.
At just 13 years of age, the Shoalhaven High School student was the youngest member on the Australian Dolphins Swim Team, but that let that deter her, as she claimed two bronze medals from her from her four events.
The first bronze medal came in the S10 400m freestyle event, where she clocked a time of 4:49.86 – finishing behind Canada’s Aurelie Rivard (4:24.30) and Australia’s Monique Murphy (4:36.44)
She then backed it up in the S10 50m freestyle, swimming a time of 28.87, which was just bettered by Rivard (27.72) and New Zealand’s Sophie Pascoe (27.86).
During the August 9 to 13 event, Greenwood also managed to finish fourth in the S10 200m individual medley (2:34.40), where she placed behind Pascoe (2:28.82), Aurelie (2:30.05) and Australia’s Katherin Downey (2:32.95.
Her final event was the S10 100m butterfly, which she finished sixth, recording a time of 1:09.87 – taken out by Pascoe (1:04.90).
“I’ve learnt a lot this year, especially how to handle myself and my nerves,” Greenwood said.
“On top of that, I’ve focused on being more mature because it’s hard to be here so young but you learn to adapt.
“I’m learning more about how to pace in the heats and then race finals faster, which has been really helpful.”
Greenwood will now turn her attentions to the NSW State Age Championships, held in Sydney, from August 24-26.
