AFL South Coast has this week made the announcement, following consultation with the local football community and internal discussions.
Going forward the women’s best and fairest medal will be known as the ‘Maddy Collier’ Medal.
This huge honour recognises the pioneer that Nowra’s Collier is.
In 2017 she created history as the first NSW/ACT player to be selected for a side in the new AFL Women’s competition – signing with the GWS Giants.
“It goes without saying I'm extremely humbled and grateful,” Collier said.
“What I think is more exciting and in need of a mention though, is the fact that there is a women’s league on the South Coast.
“It’s something I pined for when I first started playing in high school and could have only dreamed of back then.”

During her time on the South Coast, Collier, 22, played for the Bomaderry Tigers, Nowra Blues, Kiama Power and Wollongong Saints before moving to Sydney to play for the UNSW Eastern Suburbs Stingrays.
Four of those aforementioned clubs are part of the inaugural AFLSC women’s competition, that is about to head into its finals series.
“Congratulations to everyone involved in making this competition a reality,” she said.
“The amount of hard work, time and effort that has gone on behind the scenes to get this up and running is truly incredible and I'm so proud that girls can finally play footy in my home town.
“I look forward with anticipation to the future stars of AFLW who will win this award for many years to come.”
Collier, who has played 11 games for the Giants in two seasons, is currently playing for the Essendon Bombers in the Women’s VFL competition, before returning to Sydney to prepare for the third AFLW season.
