IMB Bank Community Foundation partnered with The National Theatre for Children to deliver its financial literacy live-sketch comedy program, Mad About Money, to students on Wednesday morning.
The latest Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) report on financial literacy found that Australian 15-year-olds were declining in their financial literacy knowledge with scores falling significantly since 2012.
The 40-minute production aimed to enhance students’ knowledge about things like budgeting, tax and the difference between need and want items, in an effort to prepare them from life after school.
Bomaderry High deputy principal Cathy Russell said the production was a great way to teach students vital, real-world skills.
“It’s really valuable in terms of their financial literacy, it’s very important they understand these things about money,” she said.
“I think it gives them some really practical skills.”
