William Quirk, 32, of Antill Street, Canberra, was stopped for a random breath test by police on The Wool Road at Vincentia around 10.50pm on September 23 last year.
After a breath analysis, he returned a reading of 0.189.
Quirk again came under the attention of police around 5.35pm on December 30 last year after numerous motorists reported his HiAce van swerving all over the road on Forest Road at Comberton.
Court papers said one of the motorists had to take evasive action just west of Callala, pulling off the road to avoid a collision.
That motorist and another driver followed Quirk motioning for him to stop, which he did on the side of Forest Road.
The court heard the motorists removed the keys from the vehicle and waited for police to arrive.
Quirk refused to undertake a random breath test at the time and back at the police station failed on three attempts to provide a breath sample.
In Nowra Local Court on Friday, Magistrate Gabriel Fleming sentenced Quirk to 16 months’ jail from March 10, with a non-parole period of seven months.
She also fined him $1000 and sentenced him to 14 months’ jail to be served concurrently with his other jail term for failing to provide a breath test.
