The museum will host a series of events for National Science Week starting on Saturday.

Stargazing. Join Frank Gross from Shoalhaven Astronomers. He will help you see the wonders of the night sky through his telescopes. Rug up! Bring your own torches telescopes and / or binoculars, nibbles and chairs.

Navigation before GPS. Lieutenant Commander David Jones RANR, Historical Collection Officer HMAS Creswell, will outline the major breakthroughs in navigating our planet and the group will have the “hands on” experience of calculating latitude and longitude using the sun and a clock as well as the use of sextants.

Restoring the Crest. Watch this 1911 fishing boat being restored by a dedicated crew of JBMM volunteers and hear of the challenges they have faced as they prepare to re-launch the Crest and another fishing boat, the Kingfisher.

South Coast Marine Science: recent insights – Dr. Nathan Knott (Department of Primary Industries) and Mr Kye Adams (University of Wollongong) will present local ecological research: tracking fish along the east coast of Australia, and a novel way to spot sharks.

Reintroducing Threatened Species into Booderee National Park. Dr Nick Dexter (Department of Environment and Energy) will speak of the inspiring steps BNP has taken towards rebalancing the natural biodiversity of the park by reintroducing locally extinct mammals: long-nosed potaroos, southern brown bandicoots and eastern quolls.

Smart Waste Management in an age of nano plastics.  Shoalhaven City Council will outline its methods to deal with household waste. Learn about what should - and should not- go into our waste collection bins, SCC's special waste disposal collections, worm farms and composting. The group will pool their collective ideas of how to organise easy systems at home to deal with the waste generated by a consumer society.

Sun Printing. Local artist and teacher, Antony Bunyan, will show you how to harness the power of sunlight with the oldest photographic printing process, cyanotypes or sun printing! Using special UV sensitive paper, a bit of science and you imagination, create unique art prints right before your very eyes. This workshop does incur a fee.

An Introduction to Botanical Illustration. A workshop conducted by local Nature Artist, Peter Wale, in collaboration with Stig Pedersen, a/g Curator Botanic Gardens, Booderee National Park. This workshop does incur a fee.
