There are many exciting opportunities to get involved with the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery Nowra and the wider Shoalhaven art scene.
If you would like a chance to exhibit at the gallery, expressions of interest for artists, arts organisations and community cultural groups to exhibit in 2019 have now opened. The gallery looks forward to receiving a wide range of EOIs and is well equipped to exhibit a variety of art forms including paintings, works on paper, sculpture, textile art, fashion, multimedia, photography and more. If you are a practising artist or group with a body of work that might be suitable for exhibition, or an idea for a collaboration with other artists to create an exhibition, you are encouraged to lodge an expression of interest before September 3, 2018.
The gallery and the CBD Revitalisation committee are excited to announce the Laneway Panel Project. Ten aluminium panels from the laneway directly south of the gallery are waiting for high quality artwork that is engaging and accessible, celebrates culture and community, encourages people to experience art in unexpected places and to think about Nowra CBD differently. An artist fee will be negotiated with the successful applicant. The artwork must be suitable for an outdoor environment and will be on display for up to two years. Submit an expression of interest before Friday, August 31, 2018.

The Shoalhaven Arts Board is encouraging local art practitioners to apply for funding under its annual grant program. The first category is ‘Developing the arts for a sense of place’ with two grants of up to $5000 each offered. This is not just for artists – musicians, writers, filmmakers and other art professionals can also apply. The second category offers funding for projects that seek to create and install public art throughout the city, with a grant of up to $10,000 available. Application forms and more information can be picked up at the gallery or downloaded online – see shoalhavenregionalgallery.com.au/news.
The three current gallery exhibitions will close Saturday, August 4. Jamberoo Mountain Road offers 13 contemporary Australian artists a chance to share their responses to residency at Guy Warren’s property in Jamberoo. Finesse features two artists, Lee Bethel and Nicole Ison, with delicate but durable paper and ceramic works that play with light, shadow and patterns. Chris Fulham and the Audio Cave’s Moonmilk is an immersive sound environment that responds as visitors explore the space.
Once these exhibitions come down, the galleries and shop will be closed for two weeks for some necessary maintenance. It reopens on August 18 with the Shoalhaven Art Society 53rd Annual Open Art Competition. If this inspires you to start painting come along to Floral Abundance with Kim Grivas – an oil painting workshop where you can explore the technique of still life alla prima painting with a limited palette. Held on Saturday, August 25, you can book at SouthCoastTickets.com.au, or phone 4429 5444.
