A Bangalee man who allegedly bashed a 72-year-old man in the Nowra CBD in May and stole his wallet has been refused bail.

Teararoa Rerekuru, 25, did not enter pleas to the charges of aggravated robbery (strictly indictable) and shoplifting when he appeared in Nowra Local Court on Friday, July 20.
Court papers said Rerekuru allegedly bashed the man, who had been walking along Berry Street, Nowra, after leaving a nearby supermarket, between 4.40pm and 5pm on May 13.
Police said the as the victim walked down a pedestrian only path, he was allegedly approached by Rerekuru, who requested a cigarette.
When the request was declined it is alleged the victim was punched several times in the face, causing him to fall and drop his shopping.
It is alleged Rerekuru took the man’s wallet which contained $25 cash, a $30 Optus prepaid voucher and another card.
He was also charged over allegedly taking a stubby of beer valued at $4.50 from Woolworths.
Rerekuru did not apply for bail before Magistrate Gabriel Fleming, which was formally refused.
He will reappear in August 31.
