The Shoalcoast Community Legal Centre hosted its annual Koori community touch event at Lyrebird Sports Park and the NAIDOC Week theme of ‘Because of her, we can’ was a strong part of the gathering.
One of the touch teams was called ‘FACS Two Because of her, we can’ and Michelle Jones was the proud captain.
Getting children, in particular, involved with a healthy activity like sport, is an important part of life and it’s often the family’s matriarch that gets children to training and to sports events.
The matriarchs are often on the sidelines cheering their children and family members on.
Wednesday’s event had a great community feel to it and there was more going on than just the playing a game of touch or two.
Various community organisation had stalls, there was healthy good food like fruit available and children could also take part in craft activities.
