Transition Towns is a grassroots, worldwide movement where local communities initiate small scale projects in response to the key challenges of climate change.
Over the years, Shoalhaven Transition has been the catalyst for strong environmental change in the Bay and Basin community.
“Local Transition groups are helping to show their local governments, business and broader community the way forward, helping towns become stronger, happier and more capable of bouncing back from difficult times,” member Judie Deane said.
The group is passionate about eliminating the use of single-use plastics and has placed strong emphasis on this during Plastic Free July.
“We have supported the Seaside Scavenge, Plastic Pollution Solutions and Boomerang Bags Bat and Basin as well as ongoing workshops and Plastic Free July activities,” Ms Deane said.
The group operate thanks to a hard working group of volunteers, and they are calling out for more.
“As a small but very committed and progressive group we are always looking for new members with new ideas and new collaborations with other organisations,” Ms Deane.
“We want to attract more environmentally conscience and concerned members to drive more exciting adventures.”
Upcoming projects for Shoal haven Transition include social initiatives as well as environmental projects.
“Some agenda items on the table for next year include addressing food production, food prep and preserving and basic cooking skills,” Ms Deane said.
“[With] Boomerang Bags there will be the possible edition of upcycling wool to make beanies and scarves for the homeless.”
