Ladies Reserve Grade defeated Bomaderry 3-2 which will see Basin secure equal points on the ladder with Bomaderry in third place. First Grade had a 4-2 win over Callala which should see them overtake Heads in 3rd place on the ladder.
With all three teams remaining in the top four and only 5 weeks left of the regular season, Basin has high hopes of a finals blitz for the ladies again this year.
In senior men’s comp, the Over 35s travelled to Lighthouse Oval this week and suffered a 5-0 loss against top of the ladder team, Milton. It was always going to be a difficult game with the bare 11, two of whom were carrying significant injuries.
Third Grade Men lost 0-2 against Sussex. Co-captain Graham McOmish reported: “What a disappointing result! The game was a lot closer than a 2-0 scoreline. We didn't give up and kept fighting throughout the game, having about 10 shots at goal during one period of time and the darn ball just wouldn't go in for us!”
Third grade are still chasing finals only being 4 points short of a position in the top four so will be looking to really lift for the remainder of the season.
First Grade were also unable to overcome Sussex with a frustrating 1-2 loss, despite being up 1-0 in the first half. First grade are currently sitting 7 points behind 4th position holders, Huskisson. Basin will take on Huskisson this Saturday, July 21, at the Huskisson sports fields in what is sure to be an intense match given the stakes.
Reserve grade men had a bye this week.
In Junior Competition news, it was a quiet week at Basin with the middle weekend of the school holidays seeing all juniors taking a break.
This provides a good opportunity to take stock as we head into the last week’s of competition. Under 13 Boys A team sit 2nd on the ladder, 5 points behind Bomaderry. Under 13 Boys B have been nudged into 5th place on the ladder after the Under 13 teams were restructured and an A grade team were placed in their division in 4th position. The team will fight to gain back their hard-earned place in the Finals.
Under 13 girls remain out of touch with the final four but are over-achieving on the goals their coach set for them at the beginning of the season. Under 15 girls currently sit 3rd on the ladder, 1 point under 2nd and 2 points under 1st position.
The 15 girls comp is certainly looking to be a close finish for competition champions! Under 15 boys sit equal 5th on the ladder. 4th position is currently 8 points ahead, and though this will be a challenge, the boys are certainly up for it!
