Jamberoo, who were facing a tough test against the Sharks without either of their first-choice five-eighths Josh Kent and Jayde Tooth through unavailability and injury and needing a win to maintain their grasp on fifth spot and showed lots of resolve after trailing 18-nil, but were unable to get the better of the swarming Sharks defence in the second half.
The Superoos looked to have got a dream start when the Sharks failed to field a bomb and centre Ben Wade sped away to score, only to be penalised for players being in front of the kicker and from the resulting back-to-back penalties the Sharks opened their account when fullback Jason Gray sped over under the posts.
Matt Carroll’s conversion gave the Sharks a 6-nil lead.
Jamberoo then lost Wade after a heavy clash with Bronx Goodwin and it was Goodwin who scored the Sharks second when he cruised past two defenders to cross out wide for Carroll to convert for 12-nil.
At this stage the Sharks were on fire and went to 18-nil when lock Harold Snell forced his way over beside the posts.
Jamberoo then produced their best football of the first half and were rewarded when the returning Josh Saunders showed his speed to get outside the defence and race over and Dean Watling’s conversion closed the gap to 12.
Carroll’s fourth goal, a close-range penalty, gave the Sharks what proved to be a match-winning 20-6 lead at the break.
The home side came out with plenty of purpose after the break and a clever grubber-kick by Jono Dallas was fumbled by Gray and centre Jake Clarke grabbed the crumbs.
Despite a rare miss from Watling, the Superoos were rejuvenated at 20-10.
The sin-binning of Goodwin with 25 minutes to go gave ther home side a boost, but a vital error from the first play after the penalty took the gloss of the chance and for the rest of the game turned into an absolute arm-wrestle.
Jamberoo were camped on the Sharks line for long periods but just couldn’t cross the stripe, while the Sharks looked a bit off the pace in attack against an equally determined Superoos defence and in the end the home side had to be content to know that they had scored the only points of the second half.
Sharks halves Sam Clune and skipper Matt Carroll led their side around the park well, while Jack Kavanagh, Kieran Trander and Ryan McCracken were solid in the forwards.
Jake Clarke had an outstanding match in both attack and defence for the Superoos, while Joe Rokoqo, Luke Asquith and James Gilmore were probably their best.
