At the recent 2018-19 Rotary Nowra Changeover luncheon, recently at the Bomaderry Bowling Club, Polly Hill, who presided over the historic merger of two long-standing Nowra based Rotary Clubs, handed over the presidency to Phil.
Some 60 Rotarians, partners and Friends of Rotary including special guests, Commander Fleet Air Arm, Commodore Chris Smallhorn Royal Australian Navy, Councillor Patricia White, Deputy Mayor, representing the Mayor of the City of Shoalhaven, past Rotary District Governors Maureen Manning and Glenn Wran and Assistant Governors David Bisiker and Christa Wood enjoyed the afternoon of formalities and fellowship.
Highlights of the afternoon included a piano concerto from Luke Bowen, the Lin Fowler Scholarship winner at the Shoalhaven Eisteddfod, and the surprise and emotional presentations of four Paul Harris Fellows (PHF) awards.
The first was to June Stevens for her long-standing contribution to community service, aiding families in the Shoalhaven and her leadership in Lifeline services on the South Coast.
Polly Hill received a PHF for her tireless work and drive in fulfilling the values of Rotary since joining Rotary in 2013, including her ‘Service Above Self’ commitment as the energetic 2017-18 Rotary Nowra President.
Rotarian Arthur Moorhouse was presented with his third PHF.
His award was for his tireless work coordinating major fundraising events, including the barbeques at Elite Energy sports event over many years, as well as developing the Pioneer Farm Machinery Museum in Kangaroo Valley.
Arthur’s three PHFs have been awarded over his 49 years as a Rotarian providing of local and international community humanitarian service that has involved him playing key roles in hundreds of projects and programs.
Arthur’s wife, Rhonda, received her “Paul Harris Fellow” for her 49 years of support and assistance in the same projects and programs.
Polly Hill gave her Presidential Award to Jacquie Cousley for her outstanding work, during the year, as Youth Director, Youth Safety Officer and counsellor for Rotary Nowra Exchange students.
The day finished with President Phil introducing his 2018-19 board members, Immediate Past President Polly Hill, Secretary Deb Cashion, Director Community Services Graeme Cord, Director International Services Colin Blundell, Director Youth Services Jacquie Cousley and Director Vocational Services Rob Russell who were present at the changeover event.
