Ah, how fickle can the weather be? Wednesday saw 30 players enjoying a perfect winter afternoon. Six games of Social Pairs were contested with one game of Social Triples. Saturday witnessed our 2018 Club Pairs Championship Semi-Final and 3, Mixed Social games of Pairs blown off the green after only 8 ends.
Wednesday 4th July a cool, sunny afternoon with hardly a breath of wind. The medium paced greens ran smoothly.
Rink 1 saw our Triples game where Ronny Baker (sub Steve Hollington), Joe Wright and Neil Miller used all their considerable skill to overwhelm their opposition by 24 shots to 15.
Rink 2 the first game of Pairs witnessed David Solomon and Ray Solway slaughtered their opponents by 31 to 10 shots.
Rink 3 was another tough game, Graham Price and Trevor Wright had a great win as they annihilated their opponents by 26 shots to 11.
Rink 4 in the game of the week, both teams got away to an even start as the score was 3 to 2 on the 4th end in favour of Ian Abberley and Dave Milne. Allan Furniss and John Mac soon made a mockery of this start by zoning in and taking the next 3 ends by 8 shots to be comfortably in the lead. Maybe too comfortable as Ian and Dave played superlative bowls to score a fantastic three followed by a fabulous five to retake the lead 11 to 10 on the 9th end. So it went all afternoon with both teams playing marvellous bowls. 15th end all even at 16 shots. 17th end all even at 17 shots when Ian and Dave started to enforce their superiority by winning the next 2 ends by a shot to be leading 19 to 17 on the 19th end. Not to be outdone, Allan and John replied with another fantastic 3 to go into the last end with 1 shot up their sleeve. Who would win this monumental battle? Allan Furniss and John Mac kept their concentration and bowled a perfect 1 shot end to win the game by 21 to 19 shots. What a win!!!
Rink 5 witnessed a close game with some brilliant bowling by John Newbold and Alessandro Lattanzio to overcome their opposition by 20 to 16 shots.
Rink 6 in an evenly matched game, Tommy Smith and John Edwards played magnificent bowls to win by just 16 shots to 14.
Rink 9 Roy Cartledge and Graham Mills showed their skills and experience when they overpowered their opponents by 21 to 13 shots.

The Minor Singles is in full swing with some great performances. It would be hard to pick a winner at this stage, one of the games last Saturday between Chris Murphy and Glen Radcliffe was very close and entertaining. Good luck fellas, we will looking forward to seeing a winner soon.
