Warren Wellington, 33, of no fixed address, wanted on outstanding warrants, was arrested in Nowra early Wednesday, June 27 in Nowra.
Wellington faced a variety of charges in Nowra Local Court on Wednesday afternoon and was refused bail by Magistrate Clare Farnan.
His charge sheet included being in custody of a knife in a public place, shoplifting, intimidation, aggravated break and enter, taking and driving a car, never being licensed and common assault.
Court papers said Wellington had been actively avoiding arrest following a series of events spanning back to March this year.
He was arrested in Nowra Wednesday morning, after crashing a push bike in Moss Street, while allegedly trying to avoid capture.
Police will allege at the time of his arrest Wellington was in possession of a 15cm tomahawk/knife.
He is also charged over allegedly taking a number of items from the Culburra Beach Woolworths and threatening staff members on March 13.
Court appears said Wellington was seen by staff placing a number of items into a backpack and a chocolate milk into his pants pocket before fronting the cashier to purchase a packet of chips.
When staff asked to look inside his back he allegedly stormed out of the shop but threatened to “come back and bash the f...ing s..t out of you”.
Police said Wellington suffered a head injury in a separate incident in mid-April, which left him with a laceration across his forehead. This led to his identification over alleged offences in Kiama in early May.
Court papers said CCTV captured Wellington around 4.30pm on May 3 boarding a train at Bomaderry to Kiama.
He was also captured on CCTV walking around Kiama and in the Grand Hotel, where he allegedly spent around 13 minutes, where his behaviour was noticed by staff who believed he might have been drug affected.
It is alleged he later walked into the rear of a hairdressing salon, through an unlocked open door, before making off with a set of car keys.
He was allegedly confronted in the area by a female employee at the business whom he told he was “looking for a toilet”.
The woman remembered a “distinctive scar on the man’s forehead”.
Police alleged Wellington later used the keys to steal the vehicle and drive it back to Bomaderry.
That car was allegedly found by police at a Bomaderry home officers visited on unrelated matters on May 5.
Through his solicitor, Wellington applied for bail which was refused by Magistrate Farnan, who ordered he undertake a drug and alcohol assessment.
His matters have been relisted for various dates in Wollongong and Nowra courts.
