Bunnings has lodged a development with Shoalhaven City Council for a new $27,878,000 complex to built on the current site at South Nowra, taking in an adjoining block of land to the north. The proposal will double the size of the current complex.
Bunnings property general manager, Andrew Marks said a decision on a interim location for the business to operate from during construction was being reviewed.
“We are currently reviewing our options for a temporary store location for the current team to transfer to during the construction period, to ensure local residents continue to have convenient access to a wide range of home improvement and outdoor living products,” he said.
Early suggestions, which haven’t been confirmed by the company, is it might relocate to the previously unopened for Masters’ site.
“We have lodged a development application and are working with the landlord on plans to rebuild the current Bunnings Warehouse in Nowra,” Mr Marks said.
He said the current plan was to replace the South Nowra warehouse with an even bigger and better store spanning over 17,000 square metres, making it more than 60 per cent larger than the current warehouse.
“Bunnings has been part of the local community for over 10 years and is looking forward to working with the relevant authorities throughout the development application process,” he said.
The development application will see the South Nowra warehouse expand from the current gross floor area of 6,248 square metres to 14,130 square metres.
It is planned for the complex to take up the whole site, covering the current car park, with parking to be extended from the current 225 spaces to 428 spaces under the building.
The new design will see the current complex layout flipped, with the timber trade area moving to the south of the property, and an outdoor nursery and bagged goods canopy moving to the northern end.
The proposal also includes a café, office, amenities, service road/ramps and loading areas.
It is estimated the project will result in 470 jobs during construction and 200 (full-time and part-time) jobs once the new building is completed.
