The dog suffered a severe facial injury and was left at the shelter somehwere between midnight and 8am early Tuesday morning, according to Shoalhaven City Council ranger unit manager Michale Jarman.
“The little dog was found by staff at the shelter early on Tuesday morning,” he said.
Mr Jarman said the injuries were believed to have been inflicted by another dog.
The animal was rushed to surgery at North Nowra Vet and is recovering well.
“She’s got an eyepatch on like a pirate an some bandages, and she’s definitely looking a lot better now” Mr Jarman said.
Mr Jarman said the reason as to why the animal was abandoned at the shelter was being investigated by RSPCA cruelty inspectors.
Mr Jarman reminded the community the animal shelter could not accept injured animals.
“Under NSW laws injured animals and their treatment are the responsibility of the owner,” he said.
Mr Jarman also praised the staff at the animal shelter, who “banded together” to assist the dog.
“They are a really good group of staff and council is fortunate to have them,” he said.
