The association will remain as the community consultative body for Vincentia.
A delegation of residents attended council’s meeting on Tuesday night.
Councillors praised the community work done by the association.
“The bar is set so high that many residents would be afraid to give their services to the committee,” councillor Bob Proudfoot said.
In the face of criticism from council staff, the committee maintains they have been very active during the past year.
Some of the achievements initiated were the Berry Street link to Bayswood. This included approving hard stands for the six exits and entrances between Bayswood and the schools, the leisure centre and Bayswood to the beach via Berry Street.
The VRRA campaigned for and was successful in retaining the southern entrance to Nelsons Beach.
The Little Blue Dinosaur, Hold My Hand and Slow Down safety campaign was introduced to the Shoalhaven via the VRRA.
The VRRA has now successfully extended the safety campaign to the car parks of major local shopping centres and the leisure centre.
The VRRA helped council decide on where to place new facilities, such as the Shoalhaven Water drinking fountain at Plantation Point and new bike racks for the Vincentia Village Shopping Centre.
The VRRA along with Huskisson Woollamia Community Voice successfully lobbied council over the past years for a pedestrian bridge linking Huskisson and Vincentia over Moona Creek.
“It is now gratifying to see the concrete pylons lifted into place together with pouring of the pathway approaches,” treasurer Bob Pullinger said.
“It is only weeks away from bringing dreams to reality.”
The CCB is used as a conduit to assist the community in their concerns around the area.
All the community are welcome to join and participate in the meetings which are held bi-monthly.
The next meeting is to be held at the Vincentia Community Centre at the rear of Coles carpark, at 7.30pm on Thursday, June 21.
The agenda for the June meeting includes:
- Presentation by Sandy Cromwell on the role of the State Emergency Service and how it serves the Shoalhaven Community.
- Presentation by Erica Jones from the Vincentia Chamber of Commerce on their proposal to seek improvement to the Burton Street Mall.
- Discussion on the proposal to rezone stage two and three of the Vincentia Marketplace to residential.
