IT was fitting that many of the St Georges Basin Public School students were dressed up as superheroes recently.

The students were all dressed up to see the local Variety Bash members donate a bus to their school.
The local Variety Bash members are real-life superheroes and they have donated close to 10 buses to local schools.
Local Variety Bash participant Kevin Carter said all the ‘bashers’ love supporting children and schools.
“It (seeing a donation) is a reward for all the fundraising we do and it’s good to see some money come back to the Shoalhaven,” Mr Carter said.
“A lot of money comes back to the Shoalhaven that does not get publicised because a lot of families don’t tick the publicity box and prefer to keep things quiet and that is fine.”
The bus will be used for special needs children so they can go on excursions and it will also be used for general duties as well.
“We don’t see these presentations often because a bus is such an expensive item but when we do see a presentation it’s just really something great and that is why we have got such good numbers of our team here this morning,” Mr Carter said.
The next Variety Club Bash is in August and Mr Carter is ready for his 13th trip.
“I like the adventure with a bash and I like to see different places,” he said.
“When we go to schools on the bash it’s wonderful to see the looks on the kids’ faces, particularly the ones at the isolated schools.”
He said was a sight to behold when 400 odd people turn up in costumes in 100 cars to a remote school.
“This is something a lot of these kids had never seen or experienced before,” he said.
The St Georges Basin Public School was also supporting the Shoalhaven Superheroes - an organisation which is trying to get a Ronald McDonald House built in Nowra.
About the Variety Bash
The Variety Bash is not a race or a rally. It’s an adventure with mates driving 30 year old plus cars through regional parts of Australia that you might otherwise not see, all in support of Variety – the Children’s Charity.
Throughout the bash, participants visit local towns, stopping into schools and organisations to visit the kids. Bashers get to see the direct impact of their fundraising efforts along the way, with a range of educational, health and mobility equipment provided to local schools and organisations enroute.
The event is all about having fun in support of Aussie kids. There are always festivities along the way, from theme nights to entertainment and other activities and games on the road.
A bash takes place in each state across Australia, with two in NSW.
Variety – the Children’s Charity supports children and families who are facing many challenges through sickness, disadvantage or living with a disability.
Vatiety’s work allows children to gain mobility and freedom, to get out and about in the community, to communicate, achieve independence and increase self-esteem, and where possible, assistance to help them integrate into mainstream school and activities.
