The North Street resident and artist decided to spruce up one of the garden beds across from her home, and it’s attracting visitors young and old alike.
“We started picking up rocks from the lawn so it could be mowed and we suddenly had a huge collection of rocks,” Ms Buchan said.
“So I decided to paint them and put them in the garden.”
The garden is now covered in hundreds of painted rocks depicting scenes of the ocean, fairy gardens and little towns.
“I’ve painted a few landscapes on the rocks too because that’s what I usually paint,” Ms Buchan said.
“They look quite good, but my brushes are getting a bit haggard.”
Ms Buchan said the garden had become a collaborative project within the community.
“Kids are painting their own rocks and bringing them to the garden which is just lovely,” she said.
“One visitor to the town also left a few while I was away.”
The rock garden is quickly growing and so is the number of visitors who are stopping by to take a look each day.
“Lots of kids ride down the path and they all stop and jump off to have a look at what’s going on,” Ms Buchan said.
Since creating the garden, Ms Buchan has a whole list of names she now answers to.
“I’ve been called the rock fairy and the rock lady which is very funny,” she said.
“I just hope people enjoy it, that’s what it’s there for.”
