The children and their teachers were excited because the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter landed at the nearby Thompson Street Sporting Complex.
Sussex Inlet was chosen from more than 4600 primary schools across Australia to learn about the importance of safety and local emergency services.
The helicopter crew did a great job answering as many questions as they could.
The students wanted to know things like what sort of rescues the crews had done in the past, if they had rescued families and dogs and they particularly wanted to know more about the helicopter.
They all got the chance to sit inside the helicopter, which was a hit with all the kids.
Safety tips for parents from the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service
When heading to the beach, remember to swim between the red and yellow flags at
patrolled beaches. Remember, kids learn by example, if you are doing the right thing –
they will too.
If you are heading into the bush camping or walking it is important to be prepared and
have a plan. Let someone know where you are and when you are going to be back.
And don’t forget to take lots of water with you and have a first aid kit for any potential
bumps and ouches.
Accidents happen in seconds. Whether you are at the beach, home by the pool, on
holiday or at a friend’s BBQ, always supervise children in, on and around water. If you
are going boating, rock fishing or paddling make sure you wear a lifejacket.
