Come Saturday, June 2 you have the chance.
The Nowra Croquet Club is staging a come and try day at its courts at the Bomaderry Sporting Complex, Cambewarra Road, Bomaderry.
Club publicity officer Bob Williamson said the event is all about coming and trying the sport.
“Who knows it might just be the sport for you,” he said.
“Croquet is is well known as a nasty game played by nice people.
“It is a technical game but can also be quite brutal at times, especially when you send your opponent’s ball to the other end of the lawn.”
He said croquet was a combination of lawn bowls, billiards and golf.
“The whole idea is to run your ball through the a hoop and knock your opponent away,” Mr Williamson said.
“We are looking for new members, so we would love people to come along and try the game.
“We are a very social club, members all enjoy their games.”
South Coast Register sports editor Courtney Ward took to the lawn on Wednesday to try his hand at the sport, in the first of what is hoped to become a regular local sporting challenge.
“I’d never played croquet before,” he said “but it was a challenge and dare I say it a fair bit of fun.”
For the record he showed he was a dab hand as well, with his first shot running a hoop - unfortunately though his game fell apart from there.
The come and try day will be held on Saturday, June 2, and best of all it’s free - all equipment will be provided and tuition supplied, all you need to do is wear flat soled shoes.
The come and try day will be staged between 1pm and 3pm and will be followed by an afternoon tea.
