They recently donated handmade rugs, beanies, scarves, toys, slippers and booties to the YWCA NSW, which operates a domestic violence intervention service from the Nowra Police Station.
Children, when they come in for help, are allowed to pick a toy and a rug.
“The children’s eyes light up when they see the bright colours the craft ladies use to knit and crochet these beautiful items and it helps them see some sunlight at a dark time,” a YWCA NSW spokesperson said.
Craft group spokesperson Audrey Gardyne said they were happy to support the cause.
“We think it’s a worthy cause and in this area (the Shoalhaven) domestic violence is prevalent,” Mrs Gardyne said.
“The group is happy and productive. We enjoy what we are doing.”
The Cambewarra Craft Group members like knowing they are helping children get comfort in extreme circumstances.

The group has an ongoing six-year partnership with the YWCA.
Over 300 rugs have gone to people in domestic violence situations over this period.
The busy and craft volunteers only needed six months to produce their latest impressive haul which was recently collected by the YWCA.
The craft group meets every week and they decide which projects they are going to do.
“We decide if we are going to do rugs, caps or dolls,” Mrs Gardyne said.
The group started 10 years ago with a small number of people but they have grown over the years.
People, who can’t make things or don’t have time make things, can help by making donations of yarn.
People can call Mrs Gardyne on 4446 0274 to make a donation or drop the donation to them on a Wednesday from 10am to 1pm at their base behind the Cambewarra Church 80 Main Road, Cambewarra.
The YWCA is grateful to the Cambewarra Craft Group for their beautiful handmade blankets, teddies, beanies and slippers.
“These lovely donated gifts are a welcome comfort to the women, children and families who have needed assistance in a time of crisis with very little except the clothes they are wearing,” the YWCA spokesperson said.
“The items not only provide warmth and comfort but can be a small gesture to show someone cares.”
