TAFE NSW Nowra, Certificate III in Education Support, student Winyinnar Mendez Williams picked up two awards, School Based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year.
Miss Williams was nominated by TAFE NSW teacher Neralye Ball who was delighted she took home the awards.
“Winyinnar took her role as a young Aboriginal leader seriously and shared her successes with younger students to help inspire them to achieve in their own lives,” Ms Ball said.
“Her exuberant and positive personality was infectious to both colleagues and students, and she became a role model for a number of young Indigenous students.”
TAFE NSW Regional General Manager Kerry Penton said the award winners were an inspiration to other students and a source of pride among their teachers.
“Many of these graduates are emerging as leaders in their field, helping to support growth in our region while becoming role models for those who follow as future graduates,” Ms Penton said.
“Through the rapid changes of our times and within TAFE NSW, our promise is to continue to provide the best vocational education and training in our region and beyond, to ensure TAFE NSW remains the first-choice training provider and continues to produce outstanding graduates.”
