While he was quick to congratulate the state Liberal Government for all its work upgrading the Princes Highway north of Nowra, Treasurer Scott Morrison didn't come with his own bucket of money for further south.
In the past five years, the NSW Government has invested more than $1 billion upgrading the Princes Highway south of Wollongong - including the Gerringong upgrade, Foxground to Berry Bypass, Termeil Creek upgrade, Burrill Lake Bridge upgrade and South Nowra upgrade.
But there was no offer or had there been any offer of federal funding for those projects.
“I commend the state government for all the work they have done,” Mr Morrison said.
“And why shouldn't we. The Berejiklian, Beard and O’Farrell governments have done a great job in answering to those needs on the South Coast.
“Ann [Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis] has been so much to the forefront, particularly on this project [Shoalhaven River bridge] behind us and we are pleased to be able to support that.
“It’s an important project.”
Fairfax Media’s FIX IT NOW campaign, pushing for significant safety improvements to the Princes Highway, was launched across South Coast newspapers in March.
