Talented locals do their thing on stage

Top night: Last year's September winner Daisy Pring. Catch the latest batch of local talent this Friday, May 18 at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre.

Get ready to be wowed this Friday night when 12 local acts hit the stage at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre for the 2018 Shoalhaven Open Mic: Solos & Duos event.

The night starts at 7.30pm with a host of talented locals of every age getting up on stage to showcase their musical talents.

The performers range in age from 12-year-old Ruby Reid whose style is jazz and pop to 70-year-old Bruce Coyte, who is one half of folks/blues duo, Jocean. 

Tickets start at just $12, which is a fantastic bargain to see some incredible acts.

Other performers include Abby Taylor, a 14-year-old singer/ songwriter and piano player. Abby writes pop/indie songs about growing up as a teenager in today’s world. 

Luci Blue is a 16-year- old South Coast local who likes to strum out tunes on her grandpa’s old guitar and her cello. Her voice is soft and emotive, with lyrics drawing from personal experiences and the natural world. She will be performing two songs on cello.

Paige McCallum is 15-years-old and enjoys composing her own songs and music. She plays the piano, and has taught herself the guitar and ukulele.

Maggie Davies is another young one at age 12, she writes and plays indie style ballads. She'll be singing one of her own songs and one cover on the night.

Kayla Shea is a 17-year-old singer/guitarist. Last year she released her first single/music video 100 Ways and is currently recording her new single which she will be performing at the event. 

Songwriter, singer and guitarist Ashley Hale is 46-years-old and has lived in the Shoalhaven area all his life. With his wife and three children as his inspiration, and social justice always on his mind, Ash has always had a passion for song writing. He combines an acoustic, folk sound with a rock and roll heart. 

Alvina Foo enjoys different genres of music, but always gravitates back to jazz.  She will be performing Black Coffee as well as a popular Spanish love song.

Naomi White is a 29-year old artist whose style of music is blues/folk with acoustic accompaniment.

Jocean is comprised of Joshua Coyte, 39  and Bruce Coyte,70. Their style of music is folks/blues, and they will be performing original compositions with acoustic guitar and percussion.

Tim Karkowski is a 24-year-old artist who performs folk cover songs.

Last, but definitely not least, is L2 consisting of Lorraine Hayward and Luke. L2 features smooth vocals perfectly punctuated with percussion.
