Hosts of the second year event, the Culburra Beach Boardriders Club strategically reviewed conditions before cancelling Saturday’s start due to flat low swell, strong winds and heavy rain.
“It was the best decision the operations crew could have made concentrating the tournament into the Sunday – we had solid good size waves and swell throughout the morning to mid-afternoon provided great conditions for our surfers,” club president Jason Moon said.
There was full registrations across both divisions, with surfers travelling from as far as Scarborough, Wollongong, Werri, Gerringong, Ulladulla and Sydney.
The opens event was claimed by Ty Watson, from Nick Squires and Doug Chandler, while the under 18s was won by Aidan Lewand-Parsons, ahead of Luke O’Conner, Nav Watson and Beau Buckpitt.
