Parkinson’s Australia has urged the Federal Government to commit additional funding in tomorrow's Budget to support the employment of 51 Parkinson's Nurse Specialists.
In the short clip, a Shoalhaven woman living with Parkinson’s, Linda Jenkin, praises her nurse, Nina Cheyne, for her life-changing support.
The federal budget is a daunting time of year for Nina.
“I go from year to year not knowing whether I’ll have a job,” she said
“But it’s not about me having a job, I can get a job anywhere, it’s about people in our community having access to services they need outside outside of the hospital.”
With the Shoalhaven Hospital buckling, in desperate need of more beds and more nursing staff, she hopes more support roles like hers will open up.
“The hospital needs a total revisit and review, if an older person falls over and breaks their hip they’re having to travel to Wollongong for surgery,” she said.
