Joan Tye (Bunny), who is a Trefoil member of Girl Guides and has been involved in guiding for over 50 years and is still the Nowra Nowra group ’s hall booking officer, was invited to present a junior guide an award.
Unbeknown to Mrs Tye, before the presentation the girls wanted to ask her is she would become their patron.
Thankfully Mrs Tye said ‘yes’ and the girls then presented her with a shield and a thank you badge
Elara Thomas also presented Mrs Tye with a handmade Bunny.
The 87-year-old patron is so enthusiastic about girl guides and what it has to offer the girls.
Mrs Tye loves being with the girls and is as passionate as ever about the Nowra Nowra based organisation.
It was the brand new patron’s job to present Elara Thomas her Bronze Junior BP award.
This is a prestigious award encouraging guides to work independently.
Bronze recognises that Elara is halfway through her JBP award.
Elara was thrilled to show off her work that has taken a year to complete.
As part of her badge work, Elara also entertained the guides with a puzzle hunt game she had made up.
After the presentation, everyone enjoyed afternoon tea, including the scones the guides had made earlier.
May is Girl Guide biscuit month and so look out for pop-up stalls or call 0412 162 661 and talk to Wombat Julie about buying biscuits or for information about girl guides.
