Shoalhaven City Councillors unanimously voted in favour of kick-starting upgrades at a Bomaderry oval predominantly used for Australian Rules football and cricket.

Plans slated for Artie Smith Oval were delayed when the Shoalhaven Indoor Sporting Precinct masterplan was scrapped in February, due to community opposition to removing the Bomaderry outdoor 50m pool.
Concerned they had “thrown the baby out with the bath water,” Cr John Wells raised a motion at April’s ordinary meeting to ensure the sporting ground would be upgraded.
The plan is to redevelop the oval into a sporting field of excellence capable of hosting marquee games.
Council will build a brand new club house with better storage capacity and the ability to host functions, there will be upgraded flood lighting, and an improved playing surface.
Council will spend $200,000 on developing a detailed design of the facility.
