Bram Stoker wrote about them in his novel which indicates the phenomenon was started by Count Dracula in Transylvania and then went to England many years later.
However, it’s not the vessels that Dracula targeted that I am writing about.
It’s the vessel/s that adorn the front yards of many places around the Shoalhaven.
While I go for my daily 20km run (this may or may not be true) I look around and see many tinnies on trailers in front yards, standing like silent sentinels guarding the driveway.
In reality, they are guarding nothing, not even the property that has been left within the vessel. Life jackets, fire extinguishers, tackle and fishing rods are just some of the items that get stolen regularly.
Not everyone has a backyard big enough to put a boat in.
If you have to keep your boat in the front yard, please remove the lifejackets, tackle, rods etc from the boat and secure the items somewhere safe.
Also it would be wise to fit one of those anti-theft devices to the tow ball of the trailer.
Shoplifting: A number of our local shoplifters felt the long arm of the law tapping them on the shoulder this week.
As a result of another shoplifting operation on Tuesday there were plenty of offenders dealt with, including one person being bail refused to attend Nowra Court in the future.
These operations should be a wakeup call for anyone who is considering shoplifting and a reminder to those who shoplift that they will get caught.
The shoplifting operations are ongoing and the crooks will never know where or when they will take place.
Electronic Information: To some, getting themselves out there in the social media is a great thing. Being able to see what your friends are doing is fantastic.
Being able to tell your friends what you are up to and where you are going is what we do now days, and the ease at which we can communicate now is terrific, however too much info may not be so good.
We all know that what is put online stays online, be careful what you say about upcoming holidays, special events, when and where you will be if it’s away from home etc.
Remember not everyone that reads your posts is your friend.
There are those who look for information that might indicate when you are out of the house, what toys you have such as boats/jet skis/cars.
There have been instances of people going on holidays, posting the fact and ending up with their house broken into or property stolen.
It doesn’t happen all the time however it is just something that you should keep in your mind the next time you get onto social media.
P.S. Please keep vigilant when receiving emails/texts etc requesting your banking details.
There are many scams going about. Don’t become a victim.
That’s all the excitement for this week.
