Tomorrow at the Den, all three Kennedy’s Tours Tigers representative sides will wear specially designed pink jerseys to help raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
The man behind the initiative is Scott Balsar, who also coaches the Waratah League division two youth men’s side.
“We started planning this weekend six weeks ago, after jumping on board with the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s ‘Get Your Pink On’ campaign,” he said.
“The jerseys have come out great, with the pink ribbon logo on each one.
“For all three senior teams to be able to do this together is quite special and shows the unity everyone has in raising much needed funds.”
The National Breast Cancer Foundation is a cause close to the heart of Balsar and his family, which is why his annual Ballin’ for a Cure carnival has been donating proceeds for more than 10 years.
“It’s great that all the teams have gotten behind the idea and it’s one I’m sure that is only going to go for years to come,” he said.
“Saturday is going to be a special day.”
Balsar’s cubs are on an eight game win streak and will tip-off the day’s proceedings with a match against the Springwood Scorchers.
Following the youth men’s clash will be the division one women’s match between Ken Arthur’s Tigers and the Coffs Harbour Suns, from 4pm.
The final game on the ticket will see Ian Ozolins’ division one men’s side, who are on a three game win streak, battle Springwood from 6pm.
“The fun won’t just be on the court, with plenty of activities organised for the day,” Balsar said.
“Division one men’s player Ben Morris is going to dye his hair pink and then shave it all off at full-time of his match – with the highest bidder having the honours.
“The youth men’s jerseys will all be auctioned off after their match too, as well a signed pink basketballs from each of the teams in a perspex case.”
Other activities on the day include an auction for a donated steel bra, created by Vincentia High students and donated by Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis, guest speaker Natalie Donnelly from the Sydney University Flames, a raffle and hair and face painting.
“We would love everyone to get in on the action and come in pink on the day,” Balsar said.
