Shoalhaven councillor Andrew Guile said it shows our council is performing well.
“We have a $36.6 million operating surplus,” he said.
“It’s very difficult to run any narrative that we need extra rate rises off the back of this audit.
“Our council continues to be financially strong.”
Council revenue was high, $258 million, in comparison to most regional councils, but expenditure was also high at $222 million.
“A lot of our expenses go into wages and salary,” Cr Guile said
“You have to be pleased council is travelling well.
"But they’ve run this line, ‘the cupboards are bare,’ for too long, we can see through that now.”
