Mr Johnston would love to see the road transformed into a restaurant hub.
“What a great tourist attraction it would be,” Mr Johnston said.
“There is nothing like this in Australia, and only a few in the world.
“We get a lot of trendy people coming to Berry and Shoalhaven Heads, let’s bring them down to Nowra.”
The bridge is 6.5m wide, “wide enough” to house restaurants according to Mr Johnston.
While it would be a challenging engineering feat, Mr Johnston reckons the risk is worth the reward.
“The atmosphere would be amazing,” he said.
“People would go home and rave about it.”
Mr Johnston will present his idea to the Roads and Maritime Service and Kiama MP Gareth Ward.
