The members of the Lions Club of Jervis Bay, as soon as the heard of the devastation caused by the bushfires at Tathra, sprung into action by setting up a donation collection point outside Woolworths at the Vincentia Shopping Plaza.

Wendy Roberts was the main instigator of the donation drive.
The Lions were overwhelmed with donations from members of the public who gave donations both large and small.
One young boy had to be lifted up just to get himself high enough to get his donation into the bucket.
The donation collection point was operated by Leanne Jackson, Wendy Roberts, Wolfgang Mertens, Debbie and Lance Stewart, Jeff and Robyn Hunt and Bob Hanlon.
The collection team worked in shifts of four hours each.
Because of all this effort, and the generosity of those making the donations, over $8 000 was raised and Jervis Bay Lions increased the total to $10 000 with its own donation.
The public can be assured that every cent raised is being put towards the alleviation of suffering of the people of Tathra.
The money that we raised was consolidated into a fund set up by our Lions District (64 Lions Clubs in total) and this fund is administered by the district disaster coordinator for disbursement amongst those in particular need through the local Lions Clubs.
The funds are already being disbursed by the Bega Lions Club on behalf of the Tathra Lions Club.
The Jervis Bay Lions were saddened to hear that the President of Tathra Lions lost his house in the fires as well as one of the other members of the club, along with 67 other households in the town.
The donations the community provided are sorely needed and are already being put to good use in an ordered and useful way, to and by our friends in the Tathra district.
