The Knights outplayed the defending premiers to claim a comfortable 28-nil victory and coach Matt Clarke was most impressed with the team’s defense throughout the match. 

The key this weekend, however, will be to improve the Knights attack while maintaining the defensive pressure that was on display last weekend.

“The attitude that we showed in defence was really pleasing for me,” Clarke said.

“We kept turning up for each other, particularly in the second half.

“We kept turning them away, they had plenty of opportunities to score, but we kept turning up for each other in defence.

“Our completion rates need to improve though.

“We were down around 60 per cent completion rate for the whole game, we need to improve on that. We can’t give a team like Warilla lots of ball.

“They had a good win last week, so we need to build on what we did.”

Warilla opened their season with a 26-12 victory over Shellharbour in a match the Gorillas largely controlled from start to finish and Clarke is preparing his side for a physical affair.

“They’re a big team, they’ll be very physical through the middle,” Clarke said.

“We’ve got to be really good with our defensive part of the game again, they scored 26 points last week, so they’ve got a bit of footy in them. 

“We’ll have to put in with our defence, they’re a big team, they’ll be rolling through the middle.”
