Medicinal marijuana activist and former Shoalhaven Heads resident Megan Mathew believes it is high time to legalise cannabis and ease the pain of people suffering from terminal illnesses.

And she’s not alone.
Megan has been swamped with messages of support since using online community forums to invite locals to ‘Stand up for cannabis’ an event taking place in Shoalhaven Heads on May 5.
“It’s been amazing,” Megan said.
“I was initially organising it as a private small event, not expecting it to go anywhere, and it’s just gone off the Richter scale.
“I have had non-stop messages, the response has been overwhelming.”
She wants drug busts involving marijuana to become a thing of the past.
“We need to stop throwing parents who are trying to help their children, into jail,” Megan said.
The picnic, near the surf club at the beach, will take place at 4.20pm.
Bring your own picnic and rug, the event is alcohol free.
The police have been invited along to the event, which is not designed to encourage people to take drugs, rather, to show there is community support for a change in legislation.
Megan suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and found prescription drugs were not helping.
Medicinal marijuana has helped.
“The difference it made was incredible, but it made me mad,” she said.
“Why do people have to suffer when there is a natural plant out there that helps?
“It’s not just these hippies in the corner that want it legalised, it’s people from all walks of life.”
