Despite making the move to the big smoke, Levi still travels home to the Nowra Velo Club races and adds ongoing support to his Access Storage team in the NVC’s 2018 Optus series.
Levi has raced at the Sutherland criteriums in the elite A grade field and at the Marconi Cycle Club’s Tuesday evening races at Eastern Creek raceway, also in the elite A grade field.
In last Tuesday’s Marconi CC promotion Levi crossed from a large field to a selective breakaway group on the Eastern Creek course to be with the leaders into the final kilometre.
However a fourth placing was the result of making the move for the finish line prematurely. Six hundred metres is a long way out to start your sprint when in elite company.
Levi Johns has championships events in his sights in the next two weekend with the NSW under 23 road championships in the Southern Highlands next Sunday and the Nowra Velo Club’s mountain championships on Woodhill Mountain the following weekend.
A good showing in these events could see Levi on the start line for the prestigious Grafton to Inverell classic in May.
The Nowra Velo Club returns to local racing next Sunday with the third round of the 2018 Optus series.
This event will be a 53-kilometre road race on the Braidwood Road course and will start from Wugan Street in the Albatross Aviation Tech Park, Yerriyong at 8.30am.
