Early work on the Berry to Bomaderry stage of the upgrade, including the relocation of power poles and other utilities, are already under way.
“It may seem relatively simple, but it is important to carry out this work before major work starts, which is on track for mid-this year,” Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward said.
The government is working with the four companies shortlisted to construct the 10.5-kilometre stretch of highway, with the successful tender due to be announced soon.
With early construction work under way, the the speed limit between Mullers Lane and Cambewarra Road has been reduced to 80km/h.
