Over the past 15 years, the One Night Stand has taken Australian live music acts to regional parts of the country and put on a full-scale, all-ages concert for free.
Following a number of requests for Shoalhaven City Council to support bids across the region, mayor Amanda Findley has asked residents to work together to secure the event.
“So far I have heard people who want to get the One Night Stand to their area – Sanctuary Point, Berry, Milton-Ulladulla, Huskisson,” she said.
“Unless we are united any bid will fail.”
Cr Findley will host a meeting of interested residents to nominate a location ahead of a formal application being submitted.
Ruby Boland, who represent for the Milton-Ulladulla region, said hosting the event would be a huge boost for the area.
“It would be a great thing for the community to experience,” she said.
“I’ve heard nothing but good feedback from everyone who has commented and they want to see it happen.”
Ruby believes the Milton Showground would be the best local venue for the event and said council’s support is crucial.
“If council don’t support it then it definitely won’t happen,” she said.
“It’s important they get on board.”
While Ruby admitted Milton-Ulladulla residents are lucky when it comes to big music draw-cards performing, she’d like to up-and-coming artists play here too.
“We are kind of lucky with live music down here, but it would be a huge thing for the young people in town to see some of their favourite artists if it did come down here,” she said.
If you’re interested in attending the meeting please email findleya@shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au by Sunday, March 4.
