Competing in an era alongside names such as Parks and Shane Bonifay, Shaun Murray, Darrin Shapiro, Erik Ruck, Froggy Soven, Daniel Watkins, Brett Eisenhauer, Sanders will be remembered as one of the finest wakeboard riders Australia and the world has ever seen.
His raw natural talent and tireless work ethic would see him win three Asian X Games, four Moomba Masters, four X-Air events, take silver at the X-Games in the United States and in 2000 be the first Australian to win an international wakeboard event taking out the US Open.
The year 2005 saw his greatest triumphs, winning the King of Wake along with being crowned end of season US Pro Tour Champion.
To beat and place in a gruelling tour schedule of over eight to 10 events, against an era of riders arguably the most talented the world has ever seen, was astonishing.
Sanders, a soon to be inductee, pioneered new terrain internationally, being the first boarder to ride over icebergs in Newfoundland, the world’s longest rail slide over-land in Egypt and over a house-boat on his beloved Shoalhaven River.
He was also the first boarder to tow-in to the world’s most dangerous wave, Teahuppo at just 19 years of age.
He graced the covers of every leading Wake publication of its time along with featuring in many of the industry’s best videos.
He is a household name in wakeboarding around the globe and has been an integral part in the sports growth here in Australia.
The ceremony will take place at Palladium at Crown on Saturday, March 10.
