Milton-Ulladulla’s Tarje Whitford and Warilla-Lake South duo Blake Dowel and Samuel Hooper helped the Matt O’Brien (Kiama) and Jono Dallas (Jamberoo) coached side defeated the Western Suburbs Magpies 38-12 at WIN Stadium on Saturday.
The Steelers opened the scoring through Aaron Schoupp in the 19th minute before the Mapies hit back from Cameron Oitmann eight minutes later.
The host then gained the ascendancy, scoring four tries in 20 minutes through Aaron Schoupp, Jayden Sullivan, Matthew Nicholson and Aaron Schoupp.
Aaron Wilson temporaily put an halt to the Steelers’ scoring before Aaron Schoupp scored his fourth in the 65th minute and Kane Ball scored the match’s final try in the 69th minute.
Jayden Sullivan landed five of his seven conversion, to help the Steelers run out 28 points winners.
The team next take on South Sydney at Redfern Oval from 1.15pm on Saturday.
In other Steelers results, the Harold Matthews side, which includes Riley Wooden (Milton-Ulladulla), Joshua Coric (Albion Park-Oak Flats), Harley Nizza (Albion Park-Oak Flats) and Cooper Tunbridge (Albion Park-Oak Flats) defeated Wests 20-6, while the Tarsha Gale side, which includes Rhiannon Brown (Bomaderry), Dakotah Mannering (Bomaderry) and Hannah England (Batemans Bay/Milton-Ulladulla), smashed the Magpies 50-12 at Ron Costello Oval.
In round two, both the Illawarra Harold Matthews and Tarsha Gale sides travel to Redfern Oval to play South Sydney on Saturday too – playing at 10.30am and 11.50am respectively.
