Sue, 21, finished the 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run in a time of 1:04:29, more than one minute quicker Hayden Jervis (1:05:47), who hails from Jervis Bay – good enough for him to win the 40-44 years division.
Sue’s splits of 10:42 (swim), 31:28 (cycle) and 19:11 (run) also saw him take out the 20-24 years category.
“Canberra was an awesome morning – there were a lot more people than usual, so the atmosphere was great,” Sue said.
“I felt really comfortable on the run and had quite a big lead, so turned it down a notch to rest my calf that has been giving me a bit of grief lately.
“It was awesome to get the win in Canberra and get a good race under my belt in leading into next weekend’s Husky Triathlon – which is one of the bigger events on the calendar.”
