The 41-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with the strictly indictable act of participating as a client with a child, aged 14-18, in prostitution, causing the child to stay in sexual servitude and intimidation.
Court papers revealed between December 30 last year and January 23 this year the man enlisted the 16-year-old in an act of prostitution.
The girl was in the care of a group home at the time.
Police allege the accused groomed the victim to perform in a number of sex acts, ending in child prostitution.
Court papers said the man first met the girl as a 14-year-old and formed a friendship.
He allegedly later provided the girl with prohibited drugs and bought her other personal care products and other items before allegedly telling her “it was time to give back”.
It is alleged the man forced the girl into prostitution on a number of occasions.
Clients paid in either drugs or cash and the man allegedly took 65 per cent of the proceeds.
It is alleged the man acted as her “pimp”, using an electronic app to advertise the girl and her services.
The man listed the teenager as being available for a variety of sexual acts, including group sex.
He allegedly organised the sexual acts and the victim didn’t have a choice but to undertake.
On one occasion the girl took part in group sex with 14 males at the same time in the same room.
Court papers stated the men paid $2500 with the accused taking half.
It is alleged by the victim the man has 16 other girls undertaking prostitution for him, with half under the age of 16 and the youngest 13.
It is alleged the man also assaulted the victim, slapping her in the face and pulling her hair, and threatened to harm her and her carers if she didn’t comply.
It is alleged he even threatened to shoot the victim.
The girl told police she had tried to abstain from the activities as well as taking drugs but the accused continued to harass her with a number of messages.
She showed her carers the messages, who contacted police.
A search warrant was executed on the man’s home which recovered a number of items.
During a police interview he denied all knowledge of the messages saying they were not written by him, however he did admit to having oral sex with the girl on three occasions in the past month but said they were consensual acts.
The man did not apply for bail, which was formally refused by Magistrate Gabriel Fleming.
The matter will be back in court in April.
