The event, in its eighth year, will feature three different distance triathlons to appeal to a wide range of age and ability.
The festival includes the super sprint distance (200m swim/7.5km bike/2km run) for those that are just getting into the sport, the sprint distance (750m swim/20km bike/ 5km run) for those looking for a bit of a hit out to the standard distance (1.5km swim/40km bike/10km run) for the more experienced athlete.
With the 2018 ITU Age Group World Championships being held on the Gold Coast in September, athletes from across Australia are using events such as the Nowra Triathlon Festival to get ready for qualifying races that will be held across the country in coming weeks.
“Nowra triathlon has always been one of my favourite events on the calendar,” CEO of Nowra based Elite Energy, Mark Emerton said.
“It’s amazing how many people from out of town comment on what a great place we live.”
Although this year will see many high level athletes competing, it’s also the perfect opportunity for all the locals to have a crack.
“Due to a world championship on home soil this year participants wanting to get more race experience before qualification events has seen numbers far exceed all expectations,” Elite Energy marketing manager, Sebastian Gallery said.
“This year we are expecting participant numbers to be up around 25 per cent on last year’s event making this year’s Nowra Triathlon festival the biggest in the events eight year history.”
The event hub and best place to spectate all the action of the triathlon is beside the Shoalhaven River at the reserve on Riverview Road.
From this vantage point, spectators will be able to watch the swim in the Shoalhaven River, witness the controlled mayhem that is athletes exiting the water and collecting their bikes prior to heading out onto the bike course and watch athletes cross the finish line all from the one location.
Community groups and sporting clubs wishing to become involved in the event volunteer program and help raise funds for their community or sporting group should email: volunteer@eliteenergy.com.au.
