Fulton, 16, dominated her opening round, easily winning the round one, heat six contest.
Her wave scores of 7.67 and 7.87, for a total of 15.54, easily topped her opponents, Hawaiian Summer Macedo (13.40) and Brazilian Taina Hinckel (11.00).
This victory saw the Ulladulla Boardriders athlete progress straight to round three, where she was pitted up against Australia’s Zahli Kelly and Hawaii’s Zoe McDougall in heat three.
Fulton started the heat strong, scoring a 5.50 with her first wave – but following that, she could only manage 4.27, 5.23, 2.10, 2.93, 3.20 and 2.63.
This left her with a combined two wave score of 10.73.
Unfortunately her two rivals fared better in the heat, with Kelly managing a combined two-wave score of 15.23 and McDougall recording an 11.46 – therefore eliminating Fulton from the competition.
