The eclectus parrot disappeared on January 4 from Bell’s Family Carnival at Batehaven near Batemans Bay – to the distress of his new owner Nomad the Magician.
Luckily, Echo, who is being trained for a future stage career, lived up to his name after a day’s anxious wait for Nomad.
Eclectus parrots are highly sought after.
Fearing the worst, Nomad was forced to live up to his name, walking the streets of Batehaven and Batemans Bay on January 5, putting up posters.
He alerted police and social media and his plea had a big response on the Bay Post Facebook page.
Echo was a Christmas present for the career performer.
However, a final search of a stand of trees lining Beach Road, in Corrigans Reserve, was just the trick at lunchtime on January 5.
“I stood under a tree and he just started going bananas,” a delighted Nomad told the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner.
Nomad was born Damon Hoitink and grew up in Canberra.
“Nomad is Damon spelled backwards,” he said.
He has always wanted to be a magician.
“This is my dream,” he said – but no more unplanned disappearing acts are on the bill.
