Yama Magic took out the #visitshoalhaven Benchmark 50 Handicap over 1200 metres with Scott Pollard on board, in front of a large crowd.
The Terry Robinson trained mare jumped well from barrier one, before taking up an inside position on the fence among the leaders. She led the pack into the straight to claim a 1 1/4 length win over On Our Selection second and Vella Lonchick third.
Robert and Luke Price rounded out the race meeting with a winner in the last of the day and as it turned out the last race to be run in NSW for 2017, when Mohican, ridden by Kathy O’Hara, took out the Ray White Nowra Maiden Plate over 1600 metres.
The four-year-old gelding settled on the speed in the early stages of the race, before O’Hara began to make a move 800 metres out, with a furlong to go he hit the front and held out the late swoopers to claim a ¾ length win over Dad’s Boy second and Weaving Magic third.
The win gave O’Hara a winning double, earlier she rode You Make Me Smile, trained by Jason Coyle, to victory in the Spencer Family Band Maiden Plate over 1200 metres.
The three-year-old colt sired by So You Think, cruised to an easy defeat of his rivals in only his second career start.
