Joshua Carberry, 32, pleaded guilty to charges of common assault and driving a motor vehicle menaces another with intent in Nowra Local Court.

Court papers said the incident happened in Kinghorne Street, Nowra between 1.40pm and 1.50pm on August 23 this year.

The court heard Carberry and the victim had known each other for two years and had shared a house together.

Police said the charges stemmed from an argument over another man’s missing wallet while the pair were travelling in a car in Nowra.

A fight broke out in the car with Carberry hitting the victim in the head.

The victim got out of the vehicle in Kinghorne Street before the accused drove away.

A short time later the victim was walking on the footpath in Kinghorne Street when Carberry returned in the car, accelerated up a driveway and continued onto the footpath at the victim.

A number of police officers witnessed the incident from the first floor of the Nowra Police Station, however by the time they had arrived at the scene Carberry had driven off.

Carberry was arrested by police when he attended Nowra Local Court two days later.

Carberry was refused bail and will be sentenced in Cessnock Local Court on January 10.
