In just four years, the TAFE NSW Nowra event has cemented its place as one of the most popular – and tastiest – events on the local social calendar, with this year’s showcase set to be the biggest yet.
Among a feast of activities being served up is a barista “Hot-shot” competition, a chocolate-making demonstration, cooking masterclasses, a cook-off, exhibitor tastings, a pop-up restaurant and much more.
The Celebrity Chef Industry Showcase, with the theme “Amazing Graze”, will be held on Monday, from 9am to 2pm at the TAFE NSW Nowra campus in Beinda Street, Bomaderry.
Showcase 2016: Nowra TAFE Industry Showcase is a lesson in hospitality
It will feature a host of renowned chefs, including Mark Stone from Stones Patisserie, Mark Olive from Black Olive, Eschalot head chef Nick Gardner, local celebrity chef Dave Campbell, 2016 Celebrity Chef Scholarship winner Brent Strong and TAFE NSW renowned cookery teachers Jo McRae, Chris Clark and Mark Chance.
Event co-organiser and TAFE NSW hospitality teacher Amanda Maynard said the event had started as a way for TAFE to showcase the services and products of industry partners but had evolved to become a whole-of-community bash.
“It really has become an all-encompassing community event,” Ms Maynard said.
“It is still a great networking event for industry but it’s become so much more interactive for the community.”
On Tuesday, November 14, the night after the showcase, the 15th annual Nowra Celebrity Chef Scholarship Degustation Dinner will be held, featuring celebrity chef and food writer Justin North.
A special tribute to celebrity chef Darren Simpson, a staunch supporter of the event who passed away earlier this year, will be featured at the dinner.
