A last-ditch attempt to prevent another rate rise in the Shoalhaven failed on Monday night, when the rescission motion lodged by Councillors Greg Watson, Mitchell Pakes and Bob Proudfoot was defeated.

Shoalhaven City Council will apply to the regulatory body, IPART, to retain its 13.2 per cent special rate variation as a permanent increase and for an additional rate rise of five per cent applied from 2018/19 until 2020/21. Mayor Amanda Findley said it would allow council to meet “ongoing community expectations”.
